Tenute Gregu is marking the tenth harvest of Selenu, its first Vermentino di Gallura Superiore DOCG, with a Special Edition label on the 2024 vintage. The Gregu family estate lies in Calangianus, in the Gallura region of north-eastern Sardinia, at the foot of Monte Limbara. It first bottled Selenu, its original Vermentino di Gallura, in 2014, three years after buying the land, and the wine has defined the estate ever since.
The Gregu family bought the land in 2011, in the countryside around Calangianus, with the island of Tavolara on the horizon. Selenu is the first wine through which Antioco Gregu and his sons Raffaele and Federico introduced their corner of Gallura. Today the three of them run the estate with Marianna Pinna, Raffaele’s wife, who looks after hospitality and relations.

The vineyards sit at around 500 metres above sea level on decomposed granite: sands and gravels formed as the rock breaks down. Wind blows almost without pause. The diurnal temperature range is wide, dew forms on the bunches overnight and ripening slows. According to the estate, this is what gives the wine its freshness, its structure and its capacity for long ageing, including in bottle.
The family sums up its approach in one word, “Verità” (truth). In the vineyard it means listening to the vine and picking only when the grapes are ready. In the cellar, it means doing as little as possible and keeping what the vintage delivered.
In our view the most interesting part of this anniversary is the oldest bottle. Vermentino di Gallura is usually drunk within months of the harvest, and few people wait ten years to open one. At the anniversary tasting Tenute Gregu held in Rome in July 2026, the Italian trade daily Italia a Tavola found the 2014 golden in colour, lightly balsamic and still surprisingly fresh.
Vermentino di Gallura has been a DOCG, the top tier of Italian appellations, since 1996, and it is still Sardinia’s only one. The production regulations (disciplinare) require at least 95% Vermentino grown in Gallura. For Superiore, yields must stay below 9 tonnes of grapes per hectare, one tonne less than standard Vermentino di Gallura, and the grapes must reach at least 12% natural potential alcohol.

Since 2024 the top of the range has been Pitraia, the estate’s second Vermentino di Gallura Superiore DOCG. It comes from one of the oldest vineyards on the property, in a spot where night-time humidity and the daytime wind drying the bunches can encourage Botrytis cinerea, or noble rot. The result is a deep golden white with considerable structure.
Two more wines sit alongside Pitraia in the premium line. Calagranis is an Isola dei Nuraghi IGT made from 100% Carignano. In Sardinia, Carignano is mostly associated with the Sulcis area in the south-west, so finding it in Gallura is an unusual choice.
Greho’s, a Colli del Limbara IGT, blends the five red varieties grown on the estate: the Sardinian Cannonau, Carignano and Muristellu (the small-berried Bovale Sardo), together with Merlot and Syrah. Selenu remains the Vermentino di Gallura the project started with, and the Special Edition vintage went on to earn Gambero Rosso’s Tre Bicchieri 2027, 96 points from James Suckling and 95 from DoctorWine.
Selenu is Tenute Gregu’s first Vermentino di Gallura Superiore DOCG, made in Calangianus, Sardinia. The first vintage was 2014, and the grapes grow at around 500 metres on decomposed granite at the foot of Monte Limbara.
Tenute Gregu released Selenu 2024 with a Special Edition label to celebrate the wine’s tenth harvest. It is the Vermentino di Gallura with which the Gregu family launched the estate, after buying land in Calangianus in 2011.
In the countryside around Calangianus, in Gallura, at the foot of Monte Limbara and facing the island of Tavolara. Tenute Gregu’s vineyards sit at around 500 metres on windswept granite soils, with a wide gap between day and night temperatures.
At the tenth-anniversary tasting in Rome in July 2026, Italia a Tavola described Tenute Gregu’s Selenu 2014 as golden, lightly balsamic and still surprisingly fresh, a sign of how well this Vermentino di Gallura Superiore can age.
Pitraia is Tenute Gregu’s second Vermentino di Gallura Superiore DOCG and, since 2024, the flagship of its premium line. It comes from one of the estate’s oldest vineyards, where night humidity and wind can encourage Botrytis cinerea.
